Journal Magic is now a self paced class which you can sign up to take at any time.

For Elements and CS Lovers alike .... This is a fabulous class is designed to whet your appetite for creativity and show you just how versatile your digital tool box can be when it comes to creating mixed media-like journal pages.


We will be covering a wealth of techniques, focussing on the use of the Brush Tool, Text, Layers, Blending Modes, Creative coloring, Composition, you name it, we will use it and have lots of fun in the process.
If you have a Pen and Tablet you are going to love this course as there will be fine detail work, painting, drawing and writing included in the journal- ike pages that we will create.

 

 There are a total of 21 videos presented in both CS and Elements format.  Instructions are made clear for both PC and Mac users.

Access to a private forum for support is available for all students and you also have access to me via email for questions and assistance.

Syllabus

Week 1 - Fun Fantasy Journal Page
We will cover a number of techniques for creating a fun and fanciful journal page, including creating custom backgrounds.  Cutting, cropping and blending images.  Outlining, hand drawing and embellishing.  We will also explore the use of brushes and use them in layers with colors and other custom manipulations. We will work with adjustment layers and some simple layer masking.

Week 2 - Daily Journal Style Page
In this project we will work further with layers, explore the creative use of text and warping.  We will use the Clone Stamp tool, add faux stitching with custom brush work and develop our skils for creating custom backgrounds by exploring simple pattern making.  We will also be using the Blending Modes in order to develop texture and dimension in our work.

Week 3 - Photo Journal Style Page
Using fun frames and a number of creative and worn styles we will look at ways to enhance the look and feel of your images.  Using custom brush manipulations and learning about brush properties we will add photos to a journal page in a fun and interesting way as well as explore how to 'embellish' your pages after your photo layout is complete.

Week 4 - Customizing Your Work
This week we will explore a number of techniques that will enable you to add custom scrap embellishments to your digital and mixed media projects, including the use of custom shapes, pattern fills, effects and the use of text.
You will learn how to save PNG files and start to develop your own library of digital embellishments.

This week will also include lessons on simple template layouts and a creative watercolor effects to add pizzaz to your photos and artwork.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
*  An installed version of either Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10  (Win or Mac)
* or an installed version of Adobe Photoshop CS versions 2, 3,4 & 5.
A free 30 day trial of the latest Photoshop Elements or Photoshop are available at http://www.adobe.com/
(Please note Photoshop CS2  does not support working with Jpgs in the RAW interface)

Instructions will be provided for both programs.

2. This is an advanced beginner class.
 *You need to know how to navigate around your program in a basic fashion and be comfortable with opening, closing, and resizing files.
 *You need to be able to work with zipped files and know how to unzip them and place the files where you can find them on your computer.
*  You will need a  High-Speed Internet connection to ensure that you can view the video tutorials 

What Else?

 The videos are presented in two formats, CS and Elements.  They are run on a Windows platform but I run both Mac and PC's so you have access to both sets of resources.  Extra instructions where appropriate, are given for Mac users.

There will be a private group for sharing of chatter to and fro, where we can all follow threads of a conversation and stay informed.

There will be a Flickr group set up for sharing of pictures, commentary and positive critique!
